The Earn-a-Bike program encourages people interested in learning bike mechanics to donate 25 hours of service to Sequim Bike Works in exchange for gaining valuable skills and the opportunity to build their own bicycle. Those 14 and under need an adult with them to participate in the program. A dependable bike and the knowledge, skills, and resources to repair & maintain it are earned upon completion of the Program.
Examples of Tasks and duties:
Organizing donated parts
Cleaning
Disassembling used bikes
Basic bike maintenance (after training – no prior experience necessary)
Refurbishing Bikes
Minor building, maintenance, organization
Event booth setup
Miscellaneous tasks
The Ground Rules
The 25 volunteer hours need to be completed in 7 weeks or less. The volunteer hours must be completed prior to building the bike.
If the earned bike is not completed in 1 months time, the process starts over.
Only 1 bike per volunteer, per year.
The bike is to be built from donated parts excluding the following: cables/housing and brake pads at no charge to the volunteer.
If the volunteer elects to purchase new parts from Sequim Bike Works they will receive a 30% discount on all new parts.
